I totally agree this the author's point. We've got to be relational in our Social Media efforts.

I’m not an accountant. I don’t get up every morning excited about tax regulations or cost segregation studies or loan proposal analyses. Somebody needs to care about stuff like that. I just don’t.
I need accounting. I also need life insurance, copier paper, bug spray and toenail clippers. What I don’t need is daily Facebook postings on the newest developments on toenail clippers. I just don’t care.
I get daily social media messages on stuff I like- daily specials at my taco place, what cupcakes they have at the bakery, last night’s baseball score. I’m not reading blogs about industrial plastics.
So how do you build sincere relationships powered by social media if you’re in an industry that, well, people just don’t care about?
1. Recognize it. Just because you’re into it doesn’t mean others are.
2. Tap into the Consumer Community by building relationships built on other things. Start a running club and blog about that, or wine tasting or something. Engage your passion and you will engage people.
3. Don’t forget what we’ve said before- it’s about sincere relationships. Build friendships and the numbers will take care of themselves.

He keeps me up on the best cheeses from France and Spain and every time I hear him talk about cheese, I know where to go for dental services.
